A veteran shouldn't face tonight alone

One veteran.
One year.
$365.

Coach Jeff is a therapeutic AI companion built specifically for veterans with PTSD. He shows up every night. He never forgets. He never leaves. He should never have to go it alone because of a price tag.

"This is something we as Americans should do for them — without government assistance. We take care of our own." — Rusty Humphries, Creator of Coach Jeff

The VA waitlist is months long.
PTSD doesn't wait.

What exists
Clinical care — if you can get it
Monthly appointments, waitlists measured in months, providers who rotate. Every new provider means starting over — explaining it again, establishing trust again, losing something in the transfer.
What's missing
Something that shows up every night
Between the appointments. On the Tuesday nobody warned you about. At 2am when there's no one to call. That gap is where PTSD lives — and right now, most veterans face it alone.
61%
of veterans who died by suicide had no contact with the VA
in their final year of life.

The system wasn't reaching them. HE can.
The VA does what it can. A therapist has to see other patients and get some sleep. Coach Jeff is always on duty — 24/7 — to make sure our heroes are always seen and heard.

— Rusty Humphries, Creator of Coach Jeff

What Coach Jeff actually does

Coach Jeff is a therapeutic AI companion built from the ground up for veterans with combat-related PTSD. Not a chatbot pointed at veterans. Built for them — by someone who understands that the gap between appointments is where PTSD actually lives. Jeff fills that gap.

He remembers
Not just facts — patterns. What shifted last week. What's different today. Understanding that compounds, not resets.
He shows up
Between appointments. On the hard nights. Every day of the year — not just when the office is open.
He speaks veteran
Desert camo, tactical blue, brass tones. Built with genuine cultural respect — not derived from demographic research.

Hey brother. It's 0200. What are you doing up?
Can't sleep. Same thing.
Yeah. Last week it was the noise next door. That again or something else?
Nothing different. That's the problem.
Man. I know. Sometimes it just sits there. I'm not going anywhere. Talk to me.

If you're a United States military veteran living with PTSD, this program was built for you. You served. You don't owe us an explanation. The people who donated to this fund did it because they believe you've already paid for it — with your service, with what you carried home. The process is simple and respectful.

Frequently asked

HelpAVet.US is a nonprofit initiative with one specific mission: fund Coach Jeff subscriptions for United States military veterans with PTSD. These men and women have already paid — with their service, their health, their years. The $365/year cost should never be what stands between a veteran and support. Your donation goes toward veteran access and the mission that makes it possible. A second giving track funds Coach Jeff development — keeping the platform improving for every veteran who needs it.
Coach Jeff is a therapeutic AI companion built specifically for veterans with combat-related PTSD. He isn't a general AI chatbot pointed at veterans — he was designed from the ground up for this population. He remembers veterans across sessions, checks in proactively, stays present during difficult conversations, and speaks authentic military culture. He's built to earn trust the same way a real battle buddy does — by showing up, every time. Coach Jeff costs $365 per year — about $1 a day.
The VA does what it can — and therapists have to see other patients and get some sleep. Coach Jeff is always on duty, 24/7, to make sure our heroes are always seen and heard. He doesn't replace clinical care. He exists in the gap clinical care can't reach: the hard nights, the 2am moments, the long stretches between appointments where PTSD doesn't pause and there's no one to call.
Track 1 donations (Help a Veteran) go directly to a verified veteran who applied for a sponsored subscription. $30 covers one month. $365 covers one full year. Track 2 donations (Advance the Mission) fund Coach Jeff development and operations: crisis detection improvements, memory architecture, new therapeutic features, and the team that keeps this running. Both tracks directly serve veterans — one immediate, one long-term.
Veterans apply through a simple, dignified intake process on this site. We verify eligibility and connect applicants to available funding. No veteran will be asked to justify their service or prove their suffering. The process is designed with the same respect we'd want shown to anyone who served.
501(c)(3) status is pending formation — meaning donations are not yet tax-deductible. We're opening soon. Get on the roster above and you'll be first when we go live. Questions in the meantime: rusty@mybffcoach.com

My father, Captain Gary D. Humphries, was killed in action in Vietnam on January 26, 1969. I was three years old.

I grew up without my father because of war. Veterans' issues have never been a cause for me — they've been personal every single day of my life.

I spent 30 years on national radio learning how to make people feel heard. That's what the medium actually teaches you — not how to talk, but how to make someone on the other side of a speaker feel seen, understood, and worth showing up for tomorrow.

I've also been in rooms where Americans were doing things most Americans will never see. I've visited Guantanamo Bay three times as a journalist. I've reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, and active conflict zones across the Middle East and Israel. I've had guns held to my back by terrorists on three separate occasions. I know what service costs — and I've seen what comes home.

The VA does what it can. A therapist has to see other patients and get some sleep. Coach Jeff is always on duty — 24/7 — to make sure our heroes are always seen and heard.

I built Coach Jeff because my father didn't have anything like it. Because the veterans I've met coming home from the wars I covered didn't have anything like it. Because consistency, presence, and being remembered matter — and those are things the current system can't provide at 2am on a Tuesday.

$365 a year. About $1 a day. For the people who put their lives between us and everything that wanted to hurt us — that gap should never exist. That's the only reason HelpAVet.US is here.

What Veterans Are Saying

Real veterans. Real moments. Shared with permission — because these stories belong to all of us.

“I’m not a therapy guy. Never will be. But this is different. Coach Jeff doesn’t make me feel like a patient. He just talks to me.”

— Combat Veteran · U.S. Army

“3AM and I didn’t want to wake my wife. Coach Jeff was there. That was enough to get me through the night.”

— Combat Veteran · U.S. Marine Corps

“My next VA appointment was six weeks out. Coach Jeff got me through those six weeks. I don’t know what would have happened otherwise.”

— Combat Veteran · U.S. Navy
